Casa Kandamy: A Place That Feels Like Returning to Yourself
Casa Kandamy is a special place.
It’s not just the sweeping mountain views, the layered jungle biodiversity, or the slow, hardworking rhythm of rural Colombia. It’s something deeper—something you feel before you can fully name it.
Casa Kandamy, “the house of movement,” is community. It’s meaningful connection. It’s a return to simplicity—free from the distractions and noise that so easily pull us away from ourselves.
The rooms are simple and welcoming, sparkling clean. A minimalism that puts you at ease the moment you step inside. The food is whole, nourishing, and made with intention. And every corner of the space reflects thoughtful design: hand-sketched room signs, plants nestled into driftwood and sculptural tree roots, photos that capture movement and spirit, woven grass mats that soften each space. Nothing is excessive. Everything has its place.
Each morning begins with gentle movement—slow, articulate, yet perfectly challenging. A way of opening the spine and setting the day in motion. Everything here encourages wellness, presence, and a detox from the habits that numb us or keep us externally focused.
But what makes this place truly magnetic is the energy behind it.
Sebas built this—yes, the physical space, the design, the routine—but he also built the culture that lives within it. He sets the tone each day in how he shows up: present, grounded, consistent, intentional. Always in service of others while staying true to himself. His leadership is quiet, steady, and completely embodied.
As I sit here writing, the river is my background music. The village—just over a thousand people—is slowly waking up. And I feel completely at peace. The nerves I had about traveling somewhere brand new… meeting new people… trying things I’d never experienced before… all softened into this feeling of ease. Gratitude. Alignment.
I know I’ll come back—with others—so they too can experience the richness of what Tobia and Casa Kandamy have to offer.
A Few Moments That Stay With Me
Some of the most meaningful parts of this week weren’t planned. They revealed themselves in simple, human moments:
Walking the abandoned railway
We followed the old tracks that once built this village—now overtaken by nature—and found ourselves deep in conversation with people who had been strangers only hours earlier. We talked about life, passion, purpose, and the courage it takes to move in the direction your heart wants… even when the path is uncertain.
Dinners that turned into long, soul-level conversations
Many nights, dinner stretched into hours of storytelling. We talked about the people and places that shaped us, and how each chapter of life uncovers new insights about who we’re becoming—and who we’re ready to be next.
A waterfall visit that moved me to tears
A nearby waterfall brought warm tears to my eyes. The moment felt sacred. We instinctively paused, asked permission to enter, and expressed gratitude for being allowed to witness its beauty.
For me, that waterfall holds every form of courage:
the courage to take action
the courage to grow and change
the courage to be vulnerable
the courage to accept every part of myself
It felt like both an arrival and a beginning. A reminder that the journey truly is the destination—and that the people and places we meet along the way are a gift.
A final day I’ll never forget
On my last full day in Colombia… wow.
We left at 4am to climb the mountain in La Peña, then spent 21km rafting down Río Negro back to Tobia—stopping for waterfalls, soaking in the views, and holding on through some wild rapids.
I’ve always felt connected to the river, but this trip was a real test of so many things I talk about: finding the calm spots to reset, working together, trusting the team, and staying steady when things get chaotic.
At one point, the entire boat nearly flipped and everyone went overboard except me and our guide. One of those moments where you have no choice but to stay calm, ground yourself, and help pull people back in.
An epic day—and a powerful reminder that the river really does teach us how to move through life with more courage, presence, and flow
Closing Thoughts
Casa Kandamy is more than a retreat venue. It’s a living, breathing example of what becomes possible when movement, community, nature, and purpose come together. It’s a place that helps you remember who you are—and invites you to imagine who you could become.
And I can’t wait to bring others here to experience that same clarity, connection, and quiet courage.
